EDTA Acid
General Information
Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA Acid) exists as a white crystalline powder with decomposition at 240°C. It has limited water solubility at 0.5g/L and is insoluble in organic solvents, but dissolves in boiling water at 160°C and alkaline solutions like sodium hydroxide.
The primary chemical attribute of EDTA Acid is the capacity to create highly stable, water-soluble complexes with diverse metal cations.
EDTA chelates of metals including copper, calcium, iron, magnesium and zinc boast benefits like excellent solubility and absorbability, constituting a prime micronutrient source. Mixtures of these metal chelates maintain solubility, facilitating use as multi-component micronutrient fertilizers. Additionally, the carboxyl groups of EDTA enable formation of potassium and ammonium salts, providing potassium and nitrogen alongside micronutrients. Therefore, EDTA Acid chelates present versatility for micronutrient supplementation.
