How Seaweed Fertilizer Helps Peruvian Grape Growing Industry?

Nov 18, 2024 Leave a message

According to Peruvian media Agraria, the Peruvian Association of Table Grape Producers and Exporters (Provid) released its first forecast for the new season, and Peru will export 78.7 million boxes of table grapes in the 2024/25 season. Compared with the 2023/24 season, the export volume will increase by 25.4%. Provid emphasized that Peruvian table grapes will be exported to more than 50 markets in the 2024/25 season, with a focus on the United States, Europe, Latin America and China. The association said that the increase in export volume should be attributed to the significant recovery of table grape production in the northern coastal region of Peru, which was severely affected by climate problems in the previous season. The Peruvian grape industry has shown resilience to overcome adversity, adapt to new challenges, and adapt to changing consumer preferences. It has also increased per hectare production by introducing new varieties.

Peruvian climate issues

Peru, located in western South America, has rich natural resources and a diverse geographical environment. However, with the intensification of global climate change, Peru is facing increasingly severe climate challenges such as droughts, floods, hurricanes, etc. In particular, affected by the El Nino phenomenon, there are sometimes abnormally heavy rainfall or floods, and sometimes long droughts, which have a serious impact on the lives and production of local residents.

In order to effectively respond to the challenges brought by climate change, the Peruvian government has continuously strengthened monitoring and research on meteorological and climate change, vigorously developed renewable energy, and actively promoted forest protection and ecological restoration to increase the carbon absorption capacity of forests.

It can be said that Peru's response to climate change is a process of national participation, which requires the joint efforts of the government, enterprises, society and individuals. At the same time, Dora also hopes to make some contributions to this.

Seaweed fertilizer resists adversity

Photosynthesis plays a key role in the entire life cycle of grapes. It provides the energy needed for normal metabolism of grapes. Plant photosynthesis is mainly carried out in leaves, which have the function of receiving and converting energy. Water and light are also important conditions that restrict plants to photosynthesis. Therefore, leaf aging and water stress can weaken plant photosynthesis, thereby affecting plant growth and development. Studies have shown that spraying an appropriate amount of seaweed fertilizer can improve crop photosynthesis. Some researchers have found that the reason why seaweed fertilizer increases the photosynthetic chlorophyll content of plants is that seaweed extract contains betaine, which can increase the concentration of chlorophyll and promote the photosynthetic rate of plants.

Some domestic and foreign researchers have also found that under high salt and drought conditions, applying seaweed fertilizer to fruit trees can promote the accumulation of soluble protein and proline, and can also activate certain metabolic processes and enzyme activities of fruit trees, so that fruit trees can produce a stimulus response to resist adversity and produce phenolic compounds and a variety of functional enzyme factors. In Jayaraman J's experiment, it was found that the application of seaweed extract can significantly reduce the symptoms of the plant disease, and we could further conclude that seaweed fertilizer can increase the activity of enzymes in the plant to resist adversity.

Unlike some ordinary seaweed fertilizers on the market, Dora KelpReal uses Sargassum and kelp as raw materials. It is a 100% organic seaweed extract that has been proven to improve stress tolerance, alleviate the impact of drought stress on plants, promote root development, increase sweetness and yield, and maintain crop health.
