Distinction Between Trichoderma and Mycorrhizae

Mycorrhiza

The name mycorrhiza is derived from 'myces' and 'rhiza' which represents the symbiosis between fungi and roots.

Endomycorrhizae and Ectomycorrhiza are the two most widely used and recognized mycorrhizae.

Differences between Endo and Ectomycorrhizae

Endomycorrhizae: The mycelium of endomycorrhiza first invades the roots and then invades the interior of the cells.

Ectomycorrhizae: The mycelium of ectomycorrhizas invade the roots, but they do not enter the interior of the cells. More than 90% of all types of plants form symbiotic relationships with mycorrhizae.

Mycorrhizae have the following benefits

- Activate the root

- Better absorption of nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium and water

- More tolerance to heavy metals found in soil

- Protect against fungi and nematodes

Mycorrhizal applications in agriculture

Mycorrhizae cannot be used for irrigation, it can only be applied to seedbeds and transplants manually or automatically.

It is recommended to apply Mycorrhizae during the plant cycle 2 to 4 weeks before applying Trichoderma, Bacillus subtilis and other microorganisms.

Trichoderma Fertilizer

Trichoderma has been widely used in cannabis cultivation and organic farming to control root diseases such as Phytophthora, Sclerotinia, Rhizoctonia, Fusarium, Pythium, etc. and make roots stronger and healthier.

Trichoderma in agriculture have the following benefits

1. Directly compete with other fungi for nutrients and space

2. Production of antibiotic metabolites

3. Directly attack root pathogenic fungi

It is worth mentioning that when treating Trichoderma, do not mix chemical fertilizers to avoid reducing its numbers.

Unlike mycorrhizae, Trichoderma does not live in symbiosis with the plant, so if the mycorrhizae are well established, Trichoderma's contribution will be a huge additional benefit to the plant.

Applications of trichoderma

Whenever you decide to use two beneficial fungal genera, we recommend applying Trichoderma 2-4 weeks after mycorrhizae have formed.

Irrigate them once a month to ensure the abundance of Trichoderma in the rhizosphere.

For reference only.
