Dora KelpReal Liquid's Anti-Cold Effect on Carrot

1. Purpose

The purpose is to test the anti-cold stress effect of Dora Kelpreal (Seaweed Extract Liquid) on carrots.

2. Materials and Methods

2.1 Test materials

Carrot variety: Fuji No. 7 ( original in Japan)

Biostimulant: KelprealTM liquid (100% organic seaweed product, provided by Suzhou Dora Agritech Co., Ltd)

2.2 Test method

Experiment location: Hongqiao Village, Changshu, Suzhou, China (open field). A total of 2 treatment groups were set up in the experiment. There were 30 plants in each group.

Group A: Control group with water.

Group B: 500x Seaweed Extract Liquid

Soaked the carrot seeds for 24 hours and sowed them with sand. Spray 500x seaweed extract liquid at the sowing time, then spray the same solution every 14 days, a total of 3 times.

The test period is from winter to spring, in order to test if the seaweed extract can help maintain carrot crop growth and health in low temperatures.

The related growth indexes were determined. The plant height which was measured from the stem base to the growing point, the root length from the root top to the end in the seedling stage, the carrot perimeter, the freezing leaf rate, and carrot weight were measured in the vegetative and harvest stages.

2.3 Statistical analysis

Excel & Spass were used for data statistical analysis.

3. Trial Results

During the seedling growth period, Dora KelpRealTM can well promote the growth of carrot seedlings, prompting them to quickly grow true leaves, and the growth rate above and below the ground is nearly doubled compared to the CK group.

Although winter temperatures between -2 and 5 degrees Celsius are unsuitable for carrot growth, Kelpreal can help carrots grow normally above and below ground during the vegetative growth period. The leaves that suffered freeze-damaged in the treatment group were maintained at a lower level. However, almost half of the leaves were damaged by freezing in the CK group, and the plants were short and inactive.

Because the winter temperature is not beneficial to the growth of carrots, the yield of the CK group at harvest was significantly lower than that of the treatment group. As for the daily growth, it can be seen that the growth in plant height of carrots in the CK group was limited, only 0.068cm/day, and the root length was only 0.062cm/day. Nevertheless, the carrots in the treatment group that applied Dora KelpReal still maintained a vigorous growth potential, and fewer leaves were damaged by freezing.

In conclusion, Dora KelpReal has a significant effect in helping carrots cope with cold climate change. It can quickly promote the growth of seedlings to the true leaf stage in the early stage of growth, and continuously promote the growth of the above-ground and underground parts of the seedlings. Although during the cold climate, Dora KelpReal can help the plants maintain a normal and healthy growth level, and the leaves are not damaged by freezing, but vigor. In winter, when most of the plant growth is almost stagnant, three consecutive applications of KelpRealTM help carrots to grow normally in cold conditions and keep carrots commercial without deformity.

The recommended usage on Dora KelpReal liquid is 500x foliar spray or sprinkling irrigation, applied 3 times at 14 days interval.
