Phytonadione
General Information
Phytonadione, also known as vitamin K1, is a fat-soluble micronutrient essential for plant growth and health. Its chemical name is 2-methyl-3-phytyl-1,4-naphthoquinone, denoting a multi-ring aromatic ketone structure. Phytonadione exhibits high stability against air and moisture but degrades under sunlight. It occurs naturally in green vegetation and plays a vital antioxidant role.
As an electron transporter, phytonadione facilitates photosynthetic electron flow to drive energy production. It also regulates protein function by activating certain enzymes involved in photosynthesis.
